Why Can't I shoot...

I guess overall I'm missing the point? Why would you want to shoot a revolver that was an inferior product the day it was built . Let alone 90 years or more after that point? Hopkins and Allen like Iver Johnson break tops were made to be the Cobra's and Brycos of their day. I bet I have thrown away 20 or more of these break top units. Nice widows bring them in in piles of old gun stuff they sell me and I take them apart and toss them along with old Davis derringers in the trash. I mean if you are just curious about shooting it please don't ever think it's something to rely on.

If you want to shoot it, shoot what it's made for. Buffalo Arms offers a variety of black powder cartridge ammunition, including several .38 calibers.

If you really want a top-latch revolver to shoot smokeless loads, get one of the new, modern-made Schofield revolvers.

I like the idea of old stuff..Fact I hate most new stuff.
My new model Ruger blackhawk Bisely was the worst pistol I ever shot or owned. hated it ,,seemed that children with no concept of size measured and honed all the holes on the gun.

Old inferior guns..why would you want to shoot them?
Because you can and it takes your imagination back to the past.
There are new 30-06 rifles that can take way more power than the Garand but why do people still shoot or even own the Garand.

Because the old stuff is Cool Dadio.

Old stuff is cool that was safe and interesting at the time. I enjoy shooting old trap doors and my 100 year old lever guns. Shooting an old smith or Colt in 38 SW can be fun. A hopkins and Allen or old Owl Head is just asking for a trip to the ER sorry no fun in that.

I'll take your advise and just look at the gun periodically, as I said, I wanted a top break revolver because it's old and I wanted to see the mechanics. I like old things, I still have the old tubular, long well bucket I used to draw water from as an 8 year old boy. And I like the old SXS hammer guns.

I've done that with $3.00 shotguns as a kid. I remember I had an old shotgun that didn't have a firing pin so I made one from the front axle of my bicycle but when I tested it tied to a tree it fired and make shift firing pin was nowhere to be found. I made another pin from the rest of the axle and a friend was there and I said I wouldn't shoot it and the friend grabbed the gun and shot it. And again the pin was lost although later in life I found the friend was indeed accident prone-he ran a fuel truck into an aircraft at Tinker.

My mom has a 100 year old break open revolver in 32 S&W. We buy ammo for it a Dongs, LRN. It handles it just fine.

She says it's the only gun that fits her hand. I let her shoot a 3" j-frame 38 spl, and she hated it

I have shot Colts that were about 100 years old. They were designed for smokeless powder though.
