Why does the Ada Police Department need 27 M-16 assault rifles?

Then i stand corrected. Kinda. The armor they used was a money truck and the FA weapons were not used to subdue either of the bad guys.

A full auto MP5 was used on one of the suspects and the armored car they used was not a money truck but an armored patrol car assigned to D Platoon of the Metro Division.

ADA may be a small town but they are still LEO. As the law they have rights to have full auto. Just as much as we can have a AR-15. To the ones that think Ada don't need a full auto M-16, you can cry about it as much as you want but they are not going to give them up.

Why is this thread important? If you think you can do the job with out one then prove it. If you are not willing to do it then shut up! Jeeze it's so easy to Monday morning QB. Don't even start to talk about what people need or don't need unless you have the experience or education. This is the same reason we are fighting the purposed gun ban right now, because we don't need them! Stop your hypocritical babel.

Pretty well said, except for the babel part.

Lets turn the corner a little here folks. I understand the military necessity for the use of fully auto weapons under certain circumstances in a conflict which is exactly as lurker described it. To wit: suppressive fire and movement under fire. With that in mind what are the circumstances our LEO members foresee that would require the effective and responsible use of full auto weapons?

Because the Salt Lake Tribune says cops need the ability to kill large amounts of people:

Assault weapons that can fire numerous times in seconds are designed for only one thing: killing large numbers of people. The military and law enforcement officers need that ability; ordinary law-abiding citizens do not.

Again, no circumstances given. So why do they need the ability to do that?
