Why does the Ada Police Department need 27 M-16 assault rifles?

Lets turn the corner a little here folks. I understand the military necessity for the use of fully auto weapons under certain circumstances in a conflict which is exactly as lurker described it. To wit: suppressive fire and movement under fire. With that in mind what are the circumstances our LEO members foresee that would require the effective and responsible use of full auto weapons?

My question still stands.

it still stands because the local police have no business using military tactics against civilians. Thats another agencies job. Even N Hollywood was handled without FA weapons and military tactics.

With that said, i do think some cities need particular teams for certain situations. If the citizens of Ada approve, im cool with that.

Really what's the big deal with FA? Seems to me that accurate semi-auto fire is more effective 99% of the time than spray and pray FA fire. IDK. I'm not a soldier nor have I been. Just seems like a waste of ammo.:anyone:

I think the same way. FA is fun to shoot. It is nice if your in danger of being over ran or if your laying down surpressive fire for disengaging. Other than that, i cannot think of a reason a PD needs FA.

Here's the problem with that thought. We have been at war for 10 plus years. Pumping millions of service members in and out. The average Leo now comes across more better trained people than they ever have. Watched a video where one man with an ak killed 5 officers by having better tactics. The gunman waited for the police to take cover behind their vehicles and he used fire superiority to keep them ducked as he walked right up to each responding car and gunned them down. Police have a legitimate need nowadays for better firepower and military training.

I disagree with any exception to the NFA act being made for a civilian LEA.
Post 86 should be obtainable by anyone if we are going to equip police officers with them.

Watched a special just the other day how gangs send their members to the military for training so when they get out they are very lethal. Even in kris Kyles book he mentions having a carrier captain request his team clean up a gang that was holding up the gym.
