I don't think anyone is talking down on LEO. We are all glad they they are there. Fact is that when you are in a home invasion, you are on your own. You can not wait on the LEO to show up.

Well, I am LEO and I agree that most of the time police work is reactive, not proactive. I also agree that CLEET certification isn't enough for an officer to carry a full auto firearm. Now, swat teams, cert teams, hrt teams, etc, sure. They train for it. We are in the process of developing an active shooter protocol and the requisite training that goes with it. Also, we are talking about getting better weapons, too. Before they are issued, proper training will be required. I also believe that individual citizens should be able to purchase NFA without BS tax stamps and limitations.
If LE protect us, why do we need guns? Why do we train to use those firearms? Why do we sleep with weapons next to our beds? In most cases the police do not protect and serve, they investigate and report. Like I said, not to insult LEO, but it is logistically impossible for LEO's to protect citizens.
I was in the military...I have PLENTY of time behind said weapons. So we aren't there to protect you? How many average citizens run into an armed and barricaded situation. At any time some crazy ass could walk in YOUR store and catch you off guard. Do you think Joe citizen is going to come to your aid?....yeah right. Who does? The police. I'm an operator on a special operation team so yes I do believe I need it. I'm the one that will come rescue you or whoever if called. I wouldn't rely on the armed citizens. When was the last time you attended a concealed carry course? Half the people barely hit the paper yet alone the target on the paper....and that is from 7 yards. So keep your faith in that.
As for rubbing it in peoples faces....It is sarcasm, as in I'm JOKING. Go rent a damn automatic weapon at a range and shoot away. Quit bitching.....

Lets turn the corner a little here folks. I understand the military necessity for the use of fully auto weapons under certain circumstances in a conflict which is exactly as lurker described it. To wit: suppressive fire and movement under fire. With that in mind what are the circumstances our LEO members foresee that would require the effective and responsible use of full auto weapons?
If that was aimed at me you didn't catch my sarcasm. I fully realize that the group of armed home invader a$$holes that may decide to break down my door are the the same armed a$$holes that you are trying to deal with.
But I'm right there with WillR in post #30. I don't like not being able to have them unless I have a 6 figure income. We are on the same side afterall.
No that wasn't directed toward you....general statement. If I wasn't on the swat team, I wouldn't have the full auto. I traded my Rock River patrol rifle for the Colt when I made the team.
We can what if all day long. My example was someone coming in your store and holding YOU hostage. What are you going to do? Who is going to come assist you? Who responded to the Hollywood shoot out? Civilians? Don't think so. Hell why don't we just get rid of all full auto weapons. We don't need them....may Mexico could use them. Oh wait they already have some of our old ones....
And yes I WOULD be coming to save you. I'm on the multi-jurisdictional team with Bixby and Sand Springs......Just so you know
