Why does the Ada Police Department need 27 M-16 assault rifles?

Here's the problem with that thought. We have been at war for 10 plus years. Pumping millions of service members in and out. The average Leo now comes across more better trained people than they ever have. Watched a video where one man with an ak killed 5 officers by having better tactics. The gunman waited for the police to take cover behind their vehicles and he used fire superiority to keep them ducked as he walked right up to each responding car and gunned them down. Police have a legitimate need nowadays for better firepower and military training.

Where and when did this happen? A full auto AK? What video?

it still stands because the local police have no business using military tactics against civilians. Thats another agencies job. Even N Hollywood was handled without FA weapons and military tactics.

With that said, i do think some cities need particular teams for certain situations. If the citizens of Ada approve, im cool with that.

Both full auto and an armored vehicle were used in North Hollywood.

I think the NFA restrictions on full auto are silly and I don't think police agencies have any particular need for full auto as a tactical concern but your facts are incorrect.

When I had a full auto weapon at work, it never left semi-auto and I could have cared less if they rendered it completely semi-auto.

I dont believe that local law enforcement will be as reluctant to resist as professional military would be. The president can give all the orders he wants but from the time an officer enters the military academy or OCS posse commitas is drilled into them their entire military career. Knowing a few retired officers is an enlightening experience that most of the tinfoil hatters haven't had the pleasure of knowing. It would take an entire generation of extreme erosion in the military to breed an environment where professional officer would turn against the civilian population. If you see armor from hood being mobilized across the U.S. choppers from Rucker and the 18th from Bragg then it's time to worry.

Watched a special just the other day how gangs send their members to the military for training so when they get out they are very lethal. Even in kris Kyles book he mentions having a carrier captain request his team clean up a gang that was holding up the gym.

A gang on an Aircraft Carrier was "holding up" the gym? Im haveing doubts, lol. Just sound GQ, or intruder alert or have a fire drill. LMAO. A gang of thugs intimidating a bunch of guys on a carrier. WOW.

It was on the special I was watching on gangs. It was an example of tactics taught to the gangs that go into the military. The vid was a security feed overlooking a cigarette shop in la. The guy had a full auto ak and sat on the north corner of the building 1 st car came from the south and couldn't see him. Those officers didn't make it out of the vehicle. He switched to south side next car came from the north. The officers exited the vehicles and ducked at the trunk. He rushed em and they died. Third car also had 2 officers it came from south as the shooter was at north car. He shot driver and ran. This seemed to be in 2010 ish but still very clear how this former service member turned gang banger was superior in training, tactics, and firepower to the Officers

Then i stand corrected. Kinda. The armor they used was a money truck and the FA weapons were not used to subdue either of the bad guys.

Read the book. They were hanging out in the gym and intimidating others. Sorry hold up wasnt best word choice. According to the book the seals went in and had a brawl and ended it.

I'm a Leo and I think the NFA is a bunch of hooey... That being said, Ada probably paid less than 50.00 bucks for each of those rifles... We've got several. Converted we paid less than 100.00 each. Every officer has one, the swat guys have full a's but not mil surplus.
No officer in Oklahoma can carry full auto without seperate training on the platform.
I'd be surprised if Ada's gonna issue them as is

Maybe I am missing something here, but on the referenced Facebook page, I fail to see a mention of select fire or full auto. Does anybody know they are all not semi-auto?

As to the reference that the police always arrive after the fact, I am a former Dallas PD officer and I now teach the Handgun License Class. I make a point to tell my class that I saw many dead folks and they were all dead when I got there. I could do nothing to help them, so, Class Members, you all need to carry all day every day.

I fail to see the problem with anyone being able to be armed with a select fire firearm, other than the bad guys. Are we just jealous of the Ada PD, because they apparently have them and we don't? Come on, grow up and get a grip.

As to saying why they or any PD might need them, I don't know any way to predict when the next big time, all out gunfight between some bad guys and law enforcement might happen or where it might occur, so they had better be prepared.

Finally, the SCOTUS decision. Just because SCOTUS said something does not mean that law enforcement will not do all within their power to protect citizens. They lost their lives to the tune of 126 killed in the line of duty last year, 47 to gunfire.

They may not be there when the shooting starts, but they sure do show up and deal with anyone who is left trying to shoot. They do not drive in the other direction because SCOTUS says they don't have to protect citizens.

History Channel aired the show a couple of years ago.

Ada may not have a big need for full auto, and it is good for surpressive fire , but if they are trained on it, fine let them have them. I have had a few autos in the past 15 years and do not see a big deal with the L.E with them. I helped out a few cops in getting auto and you do not see them in the news. SgtMojo has some good points. And one day I nope he will let me shoot Maggy.. lol
