I know this is after the fact but,if you ever have to redeck it,buy the plastic wood thar Lowes sells. It cost a lot more than wood but, it will last forever without any need to paint it. It is brown when it is new and turns gray with age. I did my front porch years ago and it looked great and still does.

My wife doesn't like the look of that stuff, and I don't either, so it's not an option.

She likes the blondes, and I like the walnuts and the cherries. I guess I'll compromise and let her pick the stain color...

We're headed up to OKC today to see Hairy Pothead, so we'll probably look at buying some sealer.

After living with a huge wooden deck for over 20 years I can tell you the easy way out. THompsons is worthless. It seals for like 2 years and then its a do over pain in the butt. Go to home Home depot, get their Behr solid wood stain, I think it is called Deck plus. You have to do recoats every 5 years where you walk, 10 years on everything else. It was the end of my problems. If you want to seal the wood so you never have mess with it again ( but requires stain or paint over it) go look up CPES clear penetrating epoxy sealer. VERY EXPENSIVE STUFF, but for me the Behr solid stain did the trick. It is almost like paint, and it goes over treated lumber just fine. Easy to use.

I've settled on TWP. Now I'm in OKC trying to find it. If any of y'all work someplace that has 2 gallons of 1530 natural or either the 100 or 1500 honeytone in stock, shoot me a PM. I'll be eating lunch and waiting to hear from you.

Those are the two approved shades, with preference on the natural.

I prefer CWF but TWP is good too. Thompsons sucks. It is just silicone. Remember using silicone sprays on your old leather boots? Didn't last too long and seams leak. You need a product with thick wax like properties. If the area is in the heat of the Sun put it on thicker or more coats initially. I sealed many a deck and wood exterior in Southern California which is a salty sea air / dry desert torture test.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I got the TWP 100 Series Cedartone. My wife really wanted the 1500 Natural, but I couldn't find any place that had it. I'd like to get it on there before the cold front hits, which is why I needed it today.

I got it at Kelly-Moore on 23rd and May. Yeah, the price was higher than Ace, but the guy I talked to on the phone (I think Bill) was uberhelpful, informative, and easy to talk to. I'll gladly pay for that kind of service.
