I absolutely love my 3" SW model 19. Something about the static shock of the .357 going off just makes me shiver and grin.

Wickedly accurate too. I dunno. If I had to have one gun / one box of bullets it'd be a tough decision.

Dammit GC. :grumble: I figured an old dawg like you would be a wheelgun guy first and last. :ugh2:

I'm very disappointed in you. I thought you was one of us. :tounge:

Well I never could shoot or load a revolver as well as I could a semi auto. I can count on one hand and have three fingers left over the number of Troopers who carry a revolver. And I might be overestimating that. I cant remember the last officer of any department I saw carrying a revolver. Another thing I thought of...no military I know of has used a revolver for a sidearm in the last 100 years or so. Sorry GED...not meaning any offense.

I say viable. I agree with a lot of people on here. I bet if you polled most women the revolver would win hands down. I had an XD 9. My wife couldn't load it, could not pull the slide back. She would limp wrist it when shooting. I showed her over and over but she was still very intimidated by the auto. I traded it for a Ruger Gp 100 and she absolutely loves it. She shoots it very well, she knows how to load and reload and overall very comfortable with it.

My mother has a .38 my grandfather gave her when she was younger. She keeps it in her nightstand. She is deadly accurate with it and knows how to load it and she cleans it every couple of months. I know that she doesnt like the autos either since my stepfather has a G23 and he is gettin to the point where he cant operate it very effectively anymore due to arthritis.

The above two exeriences are the reason I say viable. The question is not what is best but what is viable. I would rather both of these women have peace of mind with 6 shots that they are confident in; than an auto that they might do not have the confidence in even the first shot.

I say the Revolver is still a viable option.
My elderly In-laws were here Sunday from Broken Arrow, and FIL commented he was looking for a small pistol to keep in the house for SD. We had a discussion, and brought out several pistols, both semi auto's from a Keltec .380 to a 1911. Neither could work the slide effectivly.
Brought out several revolvers with snap caps loaded, and they had no problem with double or single action. So, in their case the revolver would, and will be the option in their case.

That's close to my grail gun right there. Actually I'd say it is my grail gun since I might stand a chance of actually having one. The other is an honest, genuine, unmolested Registered Magnum which I'm not likely to ever lay down the $$$$ for.

:rubhands: Wanna sell it?

GED is that you??????? :pms2: :pms2: :pms2:

I am personally a semi auto type guy. That is what I have shot most and feel most comfortable with.

To answer the question revolvers are still viable. Revolvers have a simpler immediate action drill (squeeze trigger vs tap, rack, bang)

Semis have a very big advantage in rate of fire and for the general public are easier to reload. By general public I mean if you give just about anyone a semi auto show them how to reload it, then a revolver and show them how to reload it most would be able to reload a semi auto quicker. However do the the nature of a semi auto there are many many things that can go wrong at just the right time.
