Thread res.

Are you retired military, or "just" a vet?

Veteran counts...no need to be retired.

DD214 doesn't automatically work to satisfy citizenship requirement though (according to CMP, some 214's will work IF they have a "Citizenship" or "Place of Birth" block.).

You don't have to be a citizen to have a DD214. I sent copies of my DD214 and Passport because my 214 doesn't have any of the above.

Interesting. Posed the question to CMP Customer Service and got this in reply:
Sir,

A copy of your DD214 will satisfy the citizenship and marksmanship requirements only. You will still need to provide proof of membership in an affiliated club. Most veterans' organizations such as the VFW, American Legion etc. are affiliated.

Thank you,

CMP Customer Service

Interesting because Orest Michaels, the guy who runs the joint, has posted that only certain DD214s satisfy the citizenship requirement. (mine didn't because it shows neither citizenship or place of birth)

When in doubt, send it all! LOL.

You could join the Garand Collectors Association online for $25. Reportedly they send their membership rolls directly to CMP on a weekly basis so your wait would be minimal.

This is the route I went, and the CMP had my membership info within days. You also get the GCA's nifty magazine, so it's a good deal.

Orders through the CMP seem to be speeding up! I placed a few orders over the last couple of months and my 308 SGS only took 5 weeks from the time I mailed the order until it showed up at FedEx!

I bought three M1 Garands and two M82 .22's. I sold one Garand for $500 more than I paid and kept the others. I also refinished one of the 82's and put a scope and bipod on it. It is slick but boy is it heavy-it's a military target rifle and Kimber didn't produce that many. One day I'll try to post a picture of my Kimber .
