My :two cents:

Horrible work, can't believe any responsible shop would have ever let a customer see much less hand over that hack job.
However; he accepted the work, paid cash and left.
Therefore, it is his. I'm sorry, he should have never paid them and left.
***** about it all you want, post pics and reviews, spread the word about crappy work, but you now own it.

That is an interesting point of view on the matter but I disagree. Just because he paid for the work doesn't mean the shop is released of their responsibility. If it was cosmetics only then maybe, but this is a safety issue that could result in serious damage. I would tell them that after purchasing it, you had a concern and had it inspected. Hopefully this shop is going to step up. In my eyes, the only way to make it right is to replace the parts, have a competent shop do the work at no cost to the customer. Sure, $75 worth of work isn't worth all the trouble but it's the minimum that should be done to save any reputation.

I totally agree, the shop SHOULD straighten it out. My point is, why did he take the crap in the first place. It is obviously a sub par job. I would never had paid for and demanded replacement.

...I think what it really boils down to is that businesses don't care about reputation as much as they used to. A little thread on OSA and a couple bad yellowpages reviews aren't going to cost this guy much money. If so Dong's here in Tulsa would be but a distant memory.

Some of the shoddy work (gas block) was covered up by the forearm and he couldn't see it at the shop unless he tore it apart there. I don't think the gun-owner would have too tough of a time with a suit.

My buddy is still in the process of getting a couple of opinions from other gunsmiths but I think small claims is where this is headed.

Your buddy already gave him a chance to make it right. I think I would just take an assault charge and whoop somebody's a$$!! I always keep a couple grand put back for court cost anyways. No way I could let this ride. The smart thing would be small claims. But I'm really not that smart. Who the hell is the gunsmith???? I've seen better work out of muffler and radiator shops. I can't believe this is real. Has anyone ever seen a gas block cut in half and welded back together ???

Did I miss the part where he tried to take it back to the shop? He has tried, right?

Nobody wins in small claims court, but the lawyers on both sides.
