I'll post some pics but got the first coat of tru oil on and it drastically darkedend the wood, it has a deep blood red to it now. Not what I was aiming for but its not terrible.

Keep adding thin coats of tru-oil... you need at least 4 before you start knocking down the high spots. You start on thin stuff, you'll start pulling that stain out

I brought the project inside whil the wife was at work Friday so I only got one coat on. You can tell wher it coated it and where it just absorbed in. I most defiantly won't touch it with steelwool or sandpaper until it starts looking glossy. I also noticed that my bottle of true oil is almost empty so I may need to pick another one up.

I was wanting that look too, but it's hard to match what they do with laminated stocks on a solid piece of wood. My ebony ended up like this.
