I shot a nice buck this afternoon. I didn’t even make it to my spot, 3 does were standing around the shed I was heading towards. I decided to sit and wait them out. Then this guy stepped out at 200 yards. I put my first shot through his shoulders and he took off running with his left leg flopping. I shot him a second time on the run and dropped him. Im going to euro mount this one, and im sure proud to have got him. View attachment 533743

Did a half day hunt yesterday with nothing but does and 8 points in the field.

Decided to do a full day sit today. There was nothing moving. Hawks and a few ducks.
About 4:30 it’s like someone left the gate open. Deer were everywhere.
About dusk. A decent buck was making its way across the stubble field. When he got to the feeder, a 100 grain Speer SPBT from the .243 WSSM turned his chest into a plow as he disappeared into the tree row.
A 5 minute search found him in the high grass.
Dragged him out to open ground snd the work began.

Edit: left the gut pile in front of the game cam that looks over the feeder to see whats going to be feeding on it and see how quick the deer move back to the feeder.
I’ve done this before and it didn’t deter the deer from hitting the feeder. We will get another chance to test my theory that it doesn’t matter where you field dress one of them.
Congratulations Dennis.

My third year as an out-of-state, Oklahoma land owning hunter has come to a close. My 1050 mile trek back home is about half finished. Thankfully, I’m not going home with an empty cooler like last year. It has three deboned does in it. I run two feeders; a 2000 lb gravity feeder and a 1000 lb broadcast feeder. Each August to September the camera on the gravity feeder occasionally captures 7-8 bucks enjoying the provided feed together in daylight. But come the rifle hunt, they, and the does, are largely nowhere to be found. FWIW, the last deer captured on camera during daylight was on 25 November (12 days ago)! My place has water, cover, and as of this year, a custom-planted food plot installed by the beloved Retrieverman. All three deer were shot on that food plot, and from a ladder stand he installed. They were not eating the greens, because I think they’d been feasting on acorns (see photo of a representative ground appearance). But, the land cleaning and elevation sure made targeting them easier. I harvested a young doe on 24 November. My two sons decided to drive from AZ to hunt over the Thanksgiving school break (18 hours in a Tesla). I gave them the best spots over the food plot (one on the ladder stand and the other in the ground blind) while I staked out the gravity feeder. About 4:30 on Thanksgiving, three does wandered onto the plot, and one son shot two of them and seemed to have woken the other son up. Since three deer worth of venison likely is the max we could eat in a year, given finicky women-folk, we called it quits. Many thanks to Retrieverman for his help and congratulations to all who filled their tag(s).

Awesome looking tc.
Thanks. Cost way to much to get it this way but it sure packs up nicely.
Sharps bros grip and a sb folding brace, added some cartridge loops on the brace for a fast reload. Worked too since I hammered him twice. He is in the freezer awaiting taxidermy on Thursday
