I did a controlled hunt on Salt plains in Area A with Muzzle loaders.
Two of the three other guys went to a pawn shop the day or two before the hunt to buy their guns. The third guy with them had one for a year, but never fired it.
We talked, and I told them where I was going and directed them to go to the other side of the zone. (for my safety).
Mid-morning one of them walked right up to the ladder stand I'd brought and said he saw a doe but his gun didn't fire.
They didn't know there had to be a percussion cap.
After doing a little noon lunch time MZ lesson, they went on their way.
Doe only, got mine that evening and GTFO of the area.
That doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve been fortunate enough to draw up there several times and it’s always a hoot. My muzz hunt was 2 deer, first deer had to be antlerless. On the 2nd night while I was gutting my buck, some dude appeared out of the darkness and asked me if I had a saw so he could cut the horns off his buck before the wardens got there cuz he hadn’t shot a doe yet.

I’m back in the land of internet and cell service and may make a full report of my adventures from the week, but for now, I’ll just share what culminated yesterday evening.
17 points with a rough gross score of 176.25”, and I forgot my scale but estimate from past experience that he weighed 250-275# live.
so i'm curious did you use that cheap broadhead you posted a while back for this beast?

Absolutely not. I haven’t had an opportunity to try them on a pig yet, and for a buck of that quality, there was no way I’d gamble on possibly substandard equipment. Once again, I used the Carbon Express XT4 heads.
