Get a S&W, forget about the other stuff (yes, I've owned Rugers and other misc. crap over the years).

My current "squirrel rife" is a S&W Model 17, with the full lug 8-3/8" barrel (scoped).

Excellent trigger, and very accurate with good ammo.

I have a few S&Ws - a 617, 17, and a 34, as well as a Ruger Single Six. My favorite, hands down, is the S&W 34 with a 4 inch barrel. Handy, great trigger, and classic styling. My next favorite is the convertible Single Six, it is a fun gun. The 17 is the most accurate, but large, and the 617 is a fun plinker, but not much more than that I think. I've never messed with the Ruger double actions, they never appealed to me much.

I had a 34 that was amazing. The problem was it was in such beautiful condition that I felt guilty taking it to the range. I then let it go and should have kept it. I have a pre-18 now as well as a 51 in .22 Mag. Both of them are a blast.

Someday I hope to catch a deal on a 63.

I bought a Ruger SR22 last December. I liked it so much I bought another for my son for Christmas. It's a real sweetheart and has been my favorite .22 handgun since I first handled it. I'm with flatwins on the Bearcat. A klittle pricey but an instant heirloom the minute you hand over the cash.
