25 varget gets me 2837 fps with great accuracy out as far as 1k. It would not be my first choice of bullet for a 1:8 barrel if you are really going for accuracy.

This was the first day out with the bullets on a fresh barrel doing some load workup.
All 5 shot groups at 100 yards from a bipod and rear bag.

Finished product 100y zero.

There are inconsistencies within the lot of bullets I received (1200 rounds). I would prefer to shoot the 75Amax, 77 SMK, or even some of the 80s, but I am heavily limited with my 1:9 twist barrel. These bullets show their flaws passed 300y but still average 1 MOA to 775, after that I am seeing roughly 2 MOA. Once I am done fireforming brass I may switch to a 1:8 or 1:7 to run one of the 80 or 90gr options.

If you can fit them I would look no further than the 75 Amax or 80 Amax.

I just attempted with some varget and blc2. 24.0 of varget gave me about 1.1 moa @100. Also tried some blc2 with very poor results (2.5moa+) at 100 as well as pressure signs at 26.0 gt. I'll get some Ramshot TAC and try as well as work up a varget load.

Yet another range session with the bullets and after having my bolt bushed my velocities are at 2870 with the same load. Still shooting well at 300 with 1/2" vertical spread. But like I said these bullets are not the most consistent option after 300. Varget has worked well for me but I have heard of others having success with another powder that I cannot think of at the moment. 8208 or something like that.

I'm too lazy to walk out to the man cave, but would that be an IMR powder? I've having issues finding Varget, so a friend clued me in to some Hodgen. Don't remember the number right now. Haven't tried it yet, but the info says its not real temp sensitive.

Dennis Tin star in weatherford has over 100 lbs of varget if ur ever our this way.

Is there another bullet that you guys might reccomend other than the Hornady 75 bthp? Bear in mind I'm shooting an ar so COL is a big factor in my shoes. Once again I have a 1:8 ranier ultramatch 14.5 barrel.

I'm hoping to get it to hold moa out to 600. I'll be going to badlands this spring and need to bring a backup

I currently am using IMR4895 for my 69gr loads in .223. It has a bit slower burn rate than TAC and 8208XBR, but a bit faster than Varget. About 23.6gr of IMR4895 with Barnes 69gr match burners have given consistent sub-moa performance from my rifle (1:9, 24").
