Well they are not "designed" as an expanding bullet, but I can guaranty they do come apart. I have shot 6 Antelope, 12 Deer, and 4 Elk with the good old SMK 168 gr. bullet out of my M1A over the years and they work great as a game getter.
And how many thousands of pigs with 77gr SMK's?
I use the cheap Federal Power-Shok 150 gr. for factory ammo Shoots .75 MOA and drops them. I also handload 150 gr. SGK (and 100 gr. SGK when I'm using the .243). You don't need a premium bullet for a little 'ol whitetail.
how are the federal sst's? im new to .308's.
this +1000. I used them last year in my .308 with good success. I might try them in my .270 this year.
The Hornady SST is a great bullet. I haven't loaded any for the .308 but have for the .243.
I load hornady 150gr SST's in my '06 last year, loading some Sierra Pro hunter 150 gr. for the .308 this year, I like the ballistic tips.
