I downloaded a model of a stripped lower this morning. It was a billet. Looked pretty damn close to a Seekins. It showed to be 5.8 cubic inches. So probably add another couple inches of support material. So probably $40 in material depending on how it was orientated in the machine. I would figure a solid 12-15 hours in the machine.

It has been a couple of years since I ran one though. My time estimates could be off.

The printers can be expensive. . . if you buy it but since we all feel that there should be some degree of self reliance here then maybe building it would be a better idea.

http://www.appropedia.org/Open_source_3-D_printers has some great info on printers that you can build yourself with some sourced parts.

And if you are interested in building something that can create truly durable albeit heavy parts this one would be a good build. http://www.appropedia.org/Open-source_metal_3-D_printer

And for those people who want to carve something out of a block of plastic or wood rather than build up ( think wood stocks ) http://www.appropedia.org/Callooh

This would be really cool to be able to get my hands on a few $40 drum mags, maybe some day someone will have this down so the poor dumb people like me can just get our hands on the finished product.
