Hi all,
I have been told, that 50 cal. handguns can't be used for CCW in OK. Is this true !
If so, why this rule ? Any answers that would make sense !
Thanks,

There's no reason at all. It's an arbitrary number. But it does go to show how ignorant the writers of the SDA were.:anyone:

Oklahoma's SDA laws date to 1997. The 50GI cartridge dates to around 2002, for it's early R&D. The initial writers of the laws of 1997 could not have been aware of what would happen five years in the future.

The 50GI is basically a 1911 adapted to a .50 caliber bullet, which makes it a pretty adequate two-legged predator control round. The slightly fat 1911 platform makes it perfectly suitable for conceal carry, IMO.

I suspect that the 1997 laws, with respect to caliber, were written with the idea of small enough to be concealable, but not so large as to be accused of a 5-ton elephant slayer caliber. The .50AE is not my idea of a suitable self defense cartridge.
