You know how many 21+ would be licensed to keep and bear arms if we had constitutional carry? Like a lot.
If 60,000 got their CCLs last year alone, the total is waaaaaay more than 190,000. The 60k accounts for more than 30% of that total. That's bullsnot.
There's no way in hell that total is accurate, especially considering President Trayvon has been in office for more than six years.
A total of 190,684 Oklahomans are licensed to carry a handgun, as of Friday, according to OSBI.
It seems perfectly likely to be accurate. OSBI is required by law to keep detailed statistics on license issuance and to publish them annually. It is certainly the highest # of active licenses ever reported in Oklahoma.
SDA licenses are usually good for five years. Yes I know they are occasionally good for ten. But one of the major points of the linked article (did you read it?) is that the 2013 numbers were up 50 percent from 2012, and more than double the number issued in 2011. So that's 60K (2013) + 45K (2012) + 30K (2011) which = 135K total licenses issued in those three years. Assume about 55K licenses issued in 2009 and 2010 together and -- yes indeed -- you get 190K.
So around 6-7% of the state's 21+ population are licensed, that looks about right. I think that percentage puts us somewhere in the top half of "shall issue" states.
As was said above, it's a good start.
