Better to make your own assessment of any situation rather than consulting internet paradigms.....they are designed to entertain not enlighten.

It doesn't matter where we are. We hold the trump card. We're still armed. Being armed is a fork in the road. Being armed is the spoiler. Because we are armed, we can skip #8.5 and cycle back to #3.5.

Rinse and repeat. After about two-and-a-half centuries, we'll be back staring at 8.5 again, and if We the People are still armed ...

How many Americans depend on a government program for a basic (or not so basic) need? According to recently released Census Bureau data and Heritage Foundation calculations, the number is 128.8 million. That is the number of individuals directly receiving aid that they depend on for their daily consumption of things such as rent, prescription drugs, and higher education.

That is 41.3 percent of the U.S.population as of July 2011.

The Wall Street Journal puts the number of people living in a household where at least one member receives help at an even higher 49.1 percent

...

If any of those numbers/percentages include people receiving social security retirement payments, or military pension payments, then the numbers are bogus. Those are people receiving retirement benefits they earned/paid for. It's not the same as welfare, or medicaid, or general relief.
