You're starting to sound like the Assistant Geometric Engineer at ODOT. He wants to slow everyone down and create narrow lanes as well so as to make the driver uncomfortable. An uncomfortable driver is a slower driver. One of his favorite phrases is, speed kills.

Make the lanes narrower, so uncomfortable, nervous drivers are even more skittish. What an idiotic thought.
Speed doesn't kill. Inattention kills. Poor driving skills kill. That jerk texting kills.
Young drivers driving above their ability, they get into trouble and do not have the experience to be able to get out of it. That is when you see a car over on it's top on a straight road where you can see for miles. Probably started when something distracted the driver, discovered he/she was all the sudden in the wrong lane, panicked and over corrected.
He likes roundabouts to.
He has a point but we dont design based on his opinions.
PLEASE don't let him get started with the roundabouts! I hate those things! And, you talk about a menace!!!!
Oh they are coming. In rural areas also. They do work more fluid than a 4 way stop.

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that. I abhor those things! The way many of them are laid out, they are just begging to create accidents. Especially for drivers who are unfamiliar with their layout and are uncertain how to get to the exit they need. Many of them try to make too many things happen too quickly for safe travel.
