It's pretty common really, and very simple. Most smith's do it. The boys at NHC turned me onto it.
Actually, I found a picture a buddy posted on another forum. This is a bit deeper than I do, but you get the point. Mine isn't even half that deep and it makes it considerably easier because it gives the plunger a track to ride in.
