It all boils down to corporate greed. I am not a union worker, but I do see upper level management making tons of money, especially in perks like bonuses and stock options. The execs. make a lot of money on the stock, so they love to keep the shareholders happy, but not worry too much about running the corp. more efficiently. How do you make the shareholders happy and make huge bonuses and dividends? By screwing the rank-and-files benefits and pay. In AA's case, I know workers have made concessions to help, but I am sure the execs. have still made more than they should. IMHO no bonuses should be paid to execs if the corp. is in any kind of bankruptcy proceedings.

How so?

AA pilots being overly cautious has everything to do with operating exactly in accordance with 14 CFR Part 121, the AA Ops specs, the aircraft flight manual, etc.

A tail cone unsafe light is not being overly cautious. They are totally forbidden to take the plane with a tail cone unsafe light. Pilots do not have discretion here.
