Just had to post a reply, I refuse to purchase anytype of firearm from any type of chainstore period. The reasons are numerous. Ever shop at a chainstore after they have ran off all the local shops? suddenly your choices are very slim and only the high margin trash is stocked. This may not be a problem in the bigger city's "yet". Go to your local wallyworld and try to buy any type of optic that isn't blisterpacked! Ain't gona happen unless the store has left overs before the latest remodel. Funny how all we tend to do these days is import junk and export money!

Ant-capitalist?

sorry but that's how compitition works... lowest price for the highest quality wins.

what I go by more is support your local store ... like it or not Academy is a local store ... buying there supports local employees and local tax base.

don't mind paying slightly higher to support local stores... but no way double and triple on-line stores. if price is within reason for same quality products... local wins everytime.

I agree with ArealGunNut. If you live long enough, you'll see the result of the "chain store era". And, you won't like it. However, the generation of the time will think it's just the way things have always been. It's already apparent today, if you just observe.

When I was growing up, you could go into Luke's Music Store in Ardmore and buy really good guns of the day for prices which, although tough for most of us to afford, were not bad for the quality guns you got. Back then, if you had one good .22 and one good shotgun, you were in high cotton.

You could also buy guns at local hardware stores in every small town.

I personally would pay Jerry's Gun Shop (in Ardmore) more for a gun than I would pay Academy. In the same general vein, I will pay more for a good American tool (if I could find one) than for a Chinese one. That's just me.

If you want to spend double or triple msrp be my guest, I was trying to point out that I feel I get a much better deal for my money at just about any mom and pop shop. For one most of the sales folks at the chain stores are clueless. Good luck getting any type of assistance if you have a problem with a purchase. Im not going to rant on wallyworld, I shop there when I must lol

Less griping, more deals, please...

If you really want to stick it to the big evil chain, go buy the smokin' deal ($150 shotgun) and NOTHING else. They often loose money on those deals, certainly it's a low-margin item at best.

After I posted, I got to thinking it had been a few years since I bought a new gun at Jerry's. So, I went down and checked some prices. Yep, they are high. I'd still rather pay them a little more (after negotiating).

buckeye has a good point, though.

:laugh6: I absolutely LOVE the loss leaders at Buy4Less ... those folks HATE to see me coming! :thumbup3:

You are right ... In order for those smokin' deals to remain smokin' you have to exercise a little self control once you get in the store.
