Having zero experience with an aimpoint i had no idea the dot itself could move. I had figured it was like most modern scopes and was permanently centered.

You've lost me man...I've seen old school optics that were adjusted by moving the entire scope body within the mount....but nothing new production that works that way. What good would an optic be if it was not adjustable for windage or elevation?

We must just have a confusion of terminology.
