If the ban fails, you'll be seeing AR's flood the market at reasonable prices. If you're afraid it will pass, find a stripped lower with a price you can stand and build one a little at a time. Keep in mind that the lower may never be worth what you paid for it.

No, match lock blunderbusses were the the first assault rifle, then came the newfangled flintlock smooth bores. I'll bet the enemy didn't feel that was "fair".
Rifled flintlocks made the battlefield especially dangerous.

I meant that they were the first rifle that could reliably and rapidly feed one bullet after another. Anti's don't care about accuracy, they care how fast it can spew lead.
