Rimfirecentral forum had an entire section dedicated to the 10/22 at one time.

Personally, I found it most challenging to find a good stock for the rifle. Something sized for an adult that would allow a good checkweld with an appropriate scope for the rifle. You can have all the greatest action, trigger and barrel parts; but if you can’t get on the rifle consistently then you’ll have a harder time getting repeated accuracy.

Why poop on the guy for wanting to build a 10/22, with the budget he has allowed himself? That's what he wants, he never asked an open question on that's the most absolute accurate way to get 22lr down range, he asked about 10/22 and set forth his budget so stay on track to the dudes request? I will never understand this place sometimes.

That's a very good point my friend,,,
And it does give me some concern.

One thought that comes to mind,,,
Is that he's much shorter than I am.

Any stock that will fit me perfectly,,,
Might be a bit long for him.

I'm 6'2",,,
He's about 5'6".

An adjustable chassis stock could solve that problem,,,
But most of them are absolutely Fugly.

I shoot a rifle with a Boyd's AT-1 stock,,,
It's adjusted perfectly for me.

I might let him shoot it one day,,,
And adjust the stock for his shorter arms,,,
That might give me an idea of what's I need to look for.

Thanks for the props, my friend, but that was an Anschutz rifle. I don't own a Volquartsen (at least not yet).

Is this the rifle that you brought to an Eat-&-Shoot at Big Boys? If so, that's the lightest trigger I've ever pulled!

Even lighter than the wife's fuse on an extremely foul day................

The Magpul stock is a nice option. It has adjustable length of pull spacers and cheek riser inserts that can be installed. It can also be setup for either pencil barrel or bull barrel configuration.

Well, on the assumption that cheap custom is better than stock,,,
I've made a list of parts for a budget build using the following components:

$259.99 - Ruger - Complete Receiver with bolt, rail, and BX trigger.
$202.00 - Shaw - 18" .920 barrel, fluted, threaded.
$69.95 - Magpul - MOE® X-22 Stock (the cheapest model).
$531.90 Total.

For this build I would use a scope that I already own,,,
A Leupold Rifleman 3-9 x 40,,,
Or a Bushnell Banner.

It's purely uneducated speculation at this point,,,
I was just seeing how inexpensive it could be.

I also did a build using nothing but KIDD parts,,,
With a high-dollar laminate stock from Tactical Solutions.

That build used up my $1,200 before I even thought of a stock or optics.

There's a mid-point out there somewhere,,,
I'll keep on speculating until I find it.

The research is actually pleasant,,,
On-Line shopping is so much more fun,,,
When you know you have the cash ready to spend.

Polish inside of receiver, and the bolt.
Get an upgraded extractor for it.
Lots of guys drill and tap scope rail screws for bigger ones.
Once built, you can "fine-tune" the V-block torque to see what harmonics your gun likes (if the Shaw doesn't eliminate that mounting style, some do). Lots of little things you can do for "free" that add up.
