Wow! The 10/22 rabbit hole is deep and slippery!

So I'm idly surfing on the three forums I frequent,,,
And I read one thread on how to buy a Ruger 10/22 rifle.

Basically it was asking whether it's better to buy a tricked out version from Ruger,,,
Or to buy the cheapest carbine and start accessorizing the heck out of it.

Now please don't jump on me for this,,,
But even though I realize it's a very fine fiery-arm,,,
I have never felt the real urge to own one for my very own.

It's just that so many folk do have them,,,
There is no uniqueness in owning one.

At least that's what I thought,,,
Before reading all 18 pages of posts,,,
And seeing all the different pictures the owners posted.

The 10/22 really is like Barbie,,,
But for men!

Anyhoo, I started reading that very long thread,,,
And was completely boggled as to how many ways to spend all of your money.

I'm no kind of gunsmith myself,,,
My skills are limited to remove and replace bolted on stuff.

I would have absolutely no idea how to swap out a barrel,,,
Nor would I have the confidence to even try it.

I could probably swap out a trigger assembly,,,
As long as it was just unscrew something and replace it.

So here's my question,,,
Is there a definitive book about building 10-22's from scratch?

I would love to read more on the rifle and it's possible builds.

Recommendations for a book will be greatly appreciated.

Here’s mine and you could never pry it out of my cold dead hands. About the only thing that’s 10/22 is the receiver box. Everything else is custom

So I’d say build on to your liking yourself. It’s not rocket science. The parts that scare you have it done plain and simple. You will end up with something you’ll keep for a lifetime
Oh and other than my Anschutz competition grade heavy barrel now gone to a member here, nothing I can find shoots to the level of this rifle at 50-100 meters

At my age and the sorry state of my shooting now,,,
It would be a complete waste of my money to build one,,,
Unless I were to build one specifically to gift away to someone.

But I do like to read about gun things in general,,,
And I think a good book on modifying/building a 10/22 would be enjoyable.

I just wish there were some accessories for my CZ-512 rifle and carbine,,,
I've done a bit of searching and can't even find a cool stock.

Anyways, book recommendations would be appreciated.

C’mon by any time.

Thanks for the invite,,,
And I need to stop by anyways.

I'm the man who needs work done on my Nickle model 34,,,
The cylinder pin won't stay tight over 40-50 rounds.

I e-mailed you several weeks back,,,
But got very busy since then with non-fun stuff.

I'm amazed that Stillwater has such a good local resource,,,
I will come to visit even if it's just to say hello.

Should I bring coffee?

Thanks again.

10/22’s are like Barbie for dudes, you can accessorize them a million different ways for nearly as many purposes. From diminutive pocket rifles to full on long range match rigs, the possibilities are endless.

This one started as a base carbine from WM. It’s on its second iteration and went from a heavy barrel hunter to a perfectly balanced lightweight field gun.
