Spend the money on a good trigger.

...and pick up some Lapua match grade ammo.

I'm in agreement with you on the trigger,,,
If I had a stock 10/22 and wanted to enhance it,,,
I believe that a better trigger would be where to spend the money.

Help eliminate the "human" aspect of the shot.

But as far as match grade ammo goes,,,
That just won't happen.

A good standard velocity is what will be used,,,
Lapua (or any match grade) is just too expensive for us casual shooters.

CCI SV will probably be the standard used,,,
It's better than "decent" in quality,,,
And readily available locally.

Neither of us are hunters,,,
So HV ammo won't be used either.

Even as poorly as I shoot,,,
I see the difference between CCI SV and CCI Mini-Mags.

Many years back I scored 20,000 rounds of Mil-Surp Remington SV,,,
I paid 1.5 cents per round for it,,,
I still have 15K rounds left.

This ammo performs surprisingly well in my bolt rifle,,,
Easily as good if not better than CCI-SV.

I shoot almost exclusively CCI SV, but it was fun to use a few boxes of match stuff just to see what the gun would REALLY do.
Mine is a basic/older build.
Polished inside receiver
VQ extractor and firing pin
Green Mountain .920 Barrel
Kidd Tigger Job Kit
DNZ one piece mount
Mueller APV Scope
Boyd stock

Wish it was threaded but cans weren't on the radar at the time.

Would it be feasible to have your barrel threaded?

Personally I have no interest in a suppressor,,,
But I'll get a threaded barrel anyways,,,
It's a cheap enough option,,,
Just in case.

Thanks for your component list,,,
Every time someone posts their build list,,,
I spend a happy hour Googling the brands for information. :burnout:

I could, but I think I'd just as much prefer to get a new barrel. Maybe stainless/fluted/threaded. The steel .920 barrels are HEAVY. It's a "bench" gun for me, but still.

Get a wooden pencil for 40 cents.

Sharpen it.

Poke a tight group of holes in the target.

Tell people you did that with your .22

Spend the $1199.60 on other stuff.

I saw a guy do that at an archery competition,,,
He used a broken arrow tip instead of a pencil though.

He didn't know there was a video camera on the bales.

Is this the rifle that you brought to an Eat-&-Shoot at Big Boys? If so, that's the lightest trigger I've ever pulled!

Even lighter than the wife's fuse on an extremely foul day................

.
I believe that the one you shot at Big Boy's was one of my Anschutz sporters. I've got a couple of target models with lighter triggers, but almost any Anschutz trigger is a good one.:D

So there I was thinking about my Budget build list,,,
And I thought I would go the opposite direction.

Here's the component list for a build,,,
Using nothing but KIDD components.

10/22 Build - KIDDAvailableItem
Starting Balance
1,200.00
Receiver
-242.00
958.00
KIDD Aftermarket Black .22LR Receiver Classic Slip Fit Model
Bolt
-141.00
817.00
KIDD .22LR Bolt -Black Matte
Trigger
-285.00
532.00
KIDD Single Stage Trigger Black
Barrel
-358.00
174.00
KIDD 18" fluted barrel, black, polished, threaded
Stock
-69.95
-853.95
Magpul - MOE® X-22 Stock – Ruger® 10/22
Total
$1,095.95

Basically that eats the entire $1,200 up,,,
And I haven't figured Transfer fee, tax, or shipping.

And then there's the scope to consider,,,
I would "guesstimate" at least $3-400 bucks for a quality optic.

So there's the High End build.

Here's the Low End build.

Budget BuildAvailableItem
Starting Balance
1,200.00
Complete Receiver set
-259.99
940.01
Ruger - 10/22 Complete Receiver – BX Target Trigger version
Barrel
-202.00
738.01
Shaw - 10/22® .920 BULL BARREL 18" BLUED STRAIGHT FLUTES THREADED
Stock
-69.95
668.06
Magpul - MOE® X-22 Stock – Ruger® 10/22
Total
$531.11

In both cases I have selected the least expensive stock I could find,,,
My thinking here is that choosing a stock is very personal.

It might work out that I offer a fixed amount of cash,,,
So my friend can pick out the stock he likes best.

If I build one 10/22 clone (is that what they are called?),,,
I might want to build another one for myself,,,
Having a spare stock could be handy.

Again, this is all speculation,,,
I'm still waiting on the 10/22 book I ordered.

No decisions will be made,,,
And no components will be ordered,,,
Until I've devoured all of the books knowledge.

In any event I now have a better understanding,,,
Of just how far my $1,200 can go.

But just to speculate a bit further,,,
My thinking after being a shooter for decades now,,,
Is that the most important component is the trigger assembly.

The accuracy of the most precise action and barrel,,,
Can be negated by a bad trigger.

Conversely, a mediocre rifle can be greatly enhanced,,,
By the use of a "good" trigger.

That's been my experience anyhow,,,
