The ruger 10/22 was my first firearm purchase long ago when I came to age.

I had one of those ramline folding stocks waiting for that day.

The ramline folding stock became ebay candy in the mid to late 90s before it got ruined by paypal and buy it now.

The original wood stock saw some forearm wittling to a schnable type.

It had been regulated to the original box for probably 20 years. What was once cool is now meh!

Oh and carrying a rotary mag in your back pocket feels like a brick in there. Dont ask what it feels like if you forget and sit down with it back there! ☹️

These are not the firearms you're looking for.

So I'm idly surfing on the three forums I frequent,,,
And I read one thread on how to buy a Ruger 10/22 rifle.

Basically it was asking whether it's better to buy a tricked out version from Ruger,,,
Or to buy the cheapest carbine and start accessorizing the heck out of it.

Now please don't jump on me for this,,,
But even though I realize it's a very fine fiery-arm,,,
I have never felt the real urge to own one for my very own.

It's just that so many folk do have them,,,
There is no uniqueness in owning one.

At least that's what I thought,,,
Before reading all 18 pages of posts,,,
And seeing all the different pictures the owners posted.

The 10/22 really is like Barbie,,,
But for men!

Anyhoo, I started reading that very long thread,,,
And was completely boggled as to how many ways to spend all of your money.

I'm no kind of gunsmith myself,,,
My skills are limited to remove and replace bolted on stuff.

I would have absolutely no idea how to swap out a barrel,,,
Nor would I have the confidence to even try it.

I could probably swap out a trigger assembly,,,
As long as it was just unscrew something and replace it.

So here's my question,,,
Is there a definitive book about building 10-22's from scratch?

I would love to read more on the rifle and it's possible builds.

Recommendations for a book will be greatly appreciated.

Don’t judge me, but I kinda like my S&W M&P .22. The only Ruger I own is the Mark V. .22 handgun.

I got a 10/22 a couple years ago at Atwoods on sale and it was not accurate and I traded it and then began reading about all the tweaks and parts you can buy for them to make them accurate.

Question: Why did Ruger not make it accurate and fix some of the reliability issues.
My model 60 was dead nuts reliable and very accurate.

Is it because my 60 was 30 years old and this new stuff Ruger turned out is just quick money.

Do people want to really spend money on something they need to fix up?
I may be in the wrong camp on this.
But if i have a firearm that is reliable and stupid accurate i do not want to change it.

I see a lot of this adding bling like putting Hemi badges on a Slant 6 car.

I'll not judge you,,,
Or at the least I won't be negative towards your choice.

People shoot what they like for the most part,,,
I don't own a Ruger 10/22 either.

I'm just intrigued by the many ways they can be customized,,,
Both for looks and function.

Myself, I shoot a CZ-512 rifle and a CZ-512 carbine,,,
Out of the box I'll put them up against,,,
Any out of the box 10/22.

That's actually the only one I "almost" bought,,,
A member of my range had one like that,,,
Even had mags that looked proper.

I believe they were just covers for the regular 10/22 mags,,,
But don't quote me on this.

It was just too cool for words,,,
He was shooting a real carbine,,,
His son was shooting the look-alike.

The son had outgrown it,,,
And offered it at a reasonable price,,,
Fortunately for me I was a bit short on cash that month.
