which should have been done three weeks ago... :punch:

C'mon, eliminate the easy stuff and let's get down the road.

That's why I thought she'd already tried a different cable already. It wouldn't make any sense not to.

However, sometimes I forget that normal people don't have miles of CAT6 laying around at home.

You must have some extra cables. Grab a different cable and go directly to the modem. If your motherboard has more than one network plugs, plug it in the other. Have the cable company check you modem from their end.
If it still doesn't work the problem is in your computer, if it gets fixed, the cable or router.

PS I've also run in to bad plugs. Look at all the cables involved, if any are pulling or pushing on the plug, especially to the side, relieve the strain, move it around in the plug to see if you can get a better contact.

IMHO, swap the cable. If that doesn't work, reboot the router rather than the PC. No luck with that, delete the NIC from device manager and reboot. One of these should resolve, or at least point at the problem.

I have an odd problem.

I have several items running off the internet, two computers, an xBox 360, a PS3...

Cable modem (motorola surfboard model), netgear router.

Once a day - not necessarily every 24 hours, but it hasn't happened more than once a day, my main computer will lose internet connection.

Everytime this happens, I'm playing my MMO - but it's a pretty good chance if I'm sitting at my computer, I'm playing my MMO - so that may or may not mean anything. :)

Nothing else on the network loses connection. The other computer, the XBox... everything else is still connected.

If I reboot, I can connect just fine again, and won't have the problem again the rest of the day.

Any thoughts?

You never did say what game it was you were playing or if you have downloaded any updates for the game.

If I had to guess I would say it was a bug in the game locking up the network port.

Try leaving your PC running all day but DO NOT run your MMO. See if it still locks up. If it locks up its not the game.

1. Download and install all available updates for the game.
2. Go to Dell's web site enter your service tag for your PC and download the newest drivers for your network card.

3. If it still locks up do a google search for similar problems with this game. Chances are you are not the 1st one to have this issue. Someone else may already have solved the problem for you.

4. If all else fails back up your saved game data, uninstall then reinstall the game. Then apply any updates that have been released for the game.

who are you using as a service provider? if said earlier in the thread, I missed it.. i recently had something similar occur, and was with Cox communication.. essentially they had to on their end reset the connection to my modem and ip address. somehow the information wasnt 100% accurate, or had changed, and therefore i was still getting connection, but when i was needing heavy bandwidth, it would essentially overload and drop connection..

after i had their tech support fix this, it has not been an issue since.. i cant tell you exactly what they did since im not a tech, but know we had several calls in with them over lost service until finally a tech found out their info wasnt in sync with my modem serial number and ip address.
