I have seriously been thinking hard here the past month about selling my AR. I really don't want to but there really is no reason for me to keep it if I cannot shoot it. I backordered some ammo off of midwayusa about 2 months ago. At the time it said that they expected it back in stock in April. But about 3 weeks ago I called them and they said they were expecting to get the ammo in at the end of this month. I just checked earlier and it now says that they are expecting it in in August!! I know that most places are having the same problems. But I have been looking around for ammo and when I do find it it costs an arm and a leg. I simply cannot afford to pay $700 or more for 1,000 rounds. And I am not going to pay $460 for 420 rounds. Even if it is green tip. I haven't shot my rifle since October so I am getting withdrawals. I have 1,000 rounds of 9mm being shipped to me and for a good price but I cannot find 556 or 223 for a good price anymore. And when I do it is sold out. Should I just wait or bite the bullet and sell the rifle? I am wondering if things will ever calm down. And when they do will we ever be able to get ammo for decent prices? I remember being able to go to Bass Pro and get a mega pack of UMC for about $120 for 250 rounds. I miss those days, as I am sure all of you guys do as well. I really am at wits end here. I don't really see the point in having a firearm that I cannot practice with and enjoy. With my pistol and shotgun, I can at least stay practicing. With my AR though, there is no practicing whatsoever. Are any of you guys facing the same thing as me or am I the only one?

This is why I am glad I have my CMMG .22LR Conversion kit, I still get to take the AR out to play and I'm not touching my limited stash of .223 .

The ammo situation will change, but not for awhile I don't think any of the ammo manufacturers ever expected a run to be made like it has gone down. The crazy thing is I understand the stocking up of things that might be banned, but the ammo won't be banned and people are still stockpiling like it will be.

I had though about selling my AR but if a ban were to be put in place I will never see one again so I am not going to take the chance.

We have been through this before. Prices and stock will begin to normalize. Just stock up again when it does. Maybe get into reloading if that is something you might be interested in.

I have the ammo, not having enough time is my problem. I won't sell off my guns because of that, they aren't costing anything sitting in the safe. Cost of replacement will likely be higher as well.

Be patient, I've been able to find ammo at non panic prices every once in awhile. I've just been buying a little here and there to roll back into my stock as I shoot the older ammo. The problem I have is the ammo that I coyote hunt with was on backorder in October and not even backorderable at this point but I still have a couple hundred rounds of it.

I think retailers, both online and storefronts, were slow to limit purchases which allowed few people to buy everything up and sell it on armslist and gunbroker for crazy money. It will take awhile for things to calm down and production to catch up.

You guys are right. I am sure that I would regret it. But it sucks not knowing when this crap is going to slow down. Places like lucky gunner and bulk ammo bot have 1,000 rounds of green tip for about 1,000 bucks! That is outrageous. And they are also selling 420 rounds for $420. Just can't pay that much. How much did you pay for your conversion kit? I would like to do that. And how does it work? Thanks for the responses.

Sounds like a 22 upper should be in the workings, and of course re-loading.
Ive been collecting brass for quite a while, even been reading about re-loading steel cases.
What are your ideas about that?

.Keep it, you may not get another and prices and availibility will come around.

.22 long rifle is the least available caliber in my neck of the woods, not sure why.
