Wrong, airsoft guns have different internal structure entirely. Besides the fact they are made from really cheap and low quality materials and not nearly to the tolerances realsteel is held to.
They claimed it could be done with the right equipment and know how, but then it would be just as easy or easier to make one from scratch. When challenged to show that in reality it could be done they failed to come up with an example.
This whole issue was more about the importation/taxes, fees and trademark infringement than anything else.
And yes, this was about 4-5 years ago. After a couple of weeks it pretty much went away.
That ATF agent should be fired for doing something so stupid. And he actually believes that "anyone with any knowledge" could easily convert the airsoft gun into a machine gun. What a joke.
