Spent a wonderful morning/afternoon locked down with my students. Needless to say they were less than happy about the situation - couldn't quite grasp the severity of it.

That's what I was kind of getting at. Made feel like there's more to the story. Nothing much unusual on the news other then they were armed. Being armed is serious enough, but I don't remember this much fuss being made of something like this before.

Well the bank was very close to the high school and a couple of elementary schools. When the suspects fled, one was repoted heading west and the other east. The MPD & OCPD focused their search in the apartments across the street from the bank and in the area E-SE of the high school.

At lunch time, a good percentage of the student body leave. Trying to search for an armed suspect with 200 cars carrying 800 gawking teenagers would not have helped the situation at all. At least that's what I'm guessing was the reasoning behind it. We had free teachers posted at the doors to make sure no one got in or out of the building. Lasted until 3PM and after school activities were cancelled.

My kids go to Primrose daycare on 119th in between may and penn and they were on lockdown because of it as well. An awful wide perimeter if you ask me, but when it comes to my kids I'm glad they were playing it safe
