Saw this and wonder if it’s true.

Most folks outside the south don't understand why we eat Black Eyed Peas for good luck on New Years Day.

As I learned it, it goes back to Sherman's sacking and burning of Atlanta. He destroyed all the food stores and left the population of Atlanta facing a winter of starvation. General Sherman had a soft spot for animals, so he did not burn the livestock feed.

Black Eyed Peas were used for hog feed, but that is what the folks of Atlanta ate that winter to survive.

We eat them every New Year to remember those awful times, but the reason that meals ensures good luck is because, if you are starting your New Year eating hog food, every day for the rest of the year has to be better.

Now there’s your Monday motivation go get yourself some Black Eyed Peas
