I have a buddy that is here on a work Visa from Canada. He wants to buy a pistol for home protection and USPSA. He would also like a shotgun for clays and what not. Does anyone know if he can legally buy one without being a resident?
Being a Canadian citizen legally in the USA does not disqualify him from buying a firearm.

He cannot get an OK carry license, which requires US Citizenship. He can get a UT carry license.
He needs his immigration forms and numbers for filling out the forms for firearms.

So can he buy a used gun with no paperwork just like I can?
Your question is too vague. I don't know how you buy your used guns.
He can take his immigation papers to an FFL and complete the paperwork; the FFL should be able to answer his questions.
I didn't mean me specifically. I just meant can he legally buy and posess a used gun off of the classifieds on this forum for instance?

This is the sum of my knowledge on the subject as well.
the 4473 reads "non-immigrant alien". I believe the instructions on page 5 of the 4473 list the ID and proof of residency requirements.
