Which trumps which? State Parks always say "No Firearms".

Yesterday I was scouting at Lake Thunderbird State Park with CCW, but after awhile I came across a no firearms sign, and was really perplexed as to which trumps which - I might have known once, but....

Thanks.

I don't have an exact answer, but since the SDA SPECIFICALLY state carrying is allowed in state parks, I've viewed those signs as applying to non-ccwers. But I could be wrong.

Simple answer: Concealed handguns may be carried on state parks and wildlife areas in accordance with the SDA, but not in buildings where state employees do business with the public..

All other use of firearms in these areas is subject to regulation/prohibition by the operating agency.

The Ranger knows I always carry at the local state park, and knows it is legal--as long as I don't decide to use it for anything besides personal defense from death or severe bodily harm. A hiker carrying a weapon hangimg out of his rear pocket was questioned by the Ranger and cited for illegally carrying a weapon (no CHL) on a state park.

By the way, based on personal conversation with the security officer at the Wichita NWR, they are using much the same rules. You can carry on a valid CHL in the refuge, but not in Federal Buildings or vehicles. That includes the vehicles for the annual hunts, but you can leave your CHL pistol in your private vehicle in the parking lot. He stated any handgun seen and every pistol shot fired in the refuge will be throughly investigated to determine if it was for personal defense.

I can hear it now, "I swear Mr. Park Ranger, those fat little p-dogs were running right for me and my bag of cheetos." :pms2:

I dont know about all state parks, but at lake thunderbird, even if you have a concealed permit, you are still not allowed to carry, I think it has something to do with it being partially on tribal land

Remember, due to federal law, you can't carry in any location controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers. This includes any State park which leases their land from the Army Corp of Engineers. Most of, if not all of the State parks surrounding Army Corp lakes are off limits.

Could you provide us with some backup on these two statements?
