CC are a bad idea for a large part of our population. Banks are like vampires and I hate them in general too much to use any of their services that I dont have to.

Credit card debt is the third largest source of household indebtedness, averaging $7,193 per household as of October 2012. Only the ~$8 trillion mortgage debt market, and the ~$1 trillion student loan debt market are larger.

Indebted American households have a substantial amount of credit card debt: of the estimated 46.7% of households that carry a balance, the average debt is a whopping $15,418 as of October 2012, an increase of 0.59% from September and 0.23% from October 2011.

I trust myself with a gun, I just have a deep-seated and largely irrational hatred of them. Probably for being the predatory scourge of the poor minority inner-city class.

:D

You know I am totally trolling you.

I have the same irrational hatred honestly, but I travel enough for work that my life would be far more difficult to handle expenses and floating the funds without one. So I have one. And I at least made it a rewards (cash back) card through a smaller, regional service-oriented bank.

Hey, I said it's largely irrational. Also you fail to consider situational factors such as the fact that guns are wicked awesome and totally badass.

And no, the scourge of the poor minority inner-city class is redlining and a wide-scale failure of our educational system coupled with a correctional system that encourages recidivism and inhibits positive lifestyle changes, along with systematic and ingrained economic disparity. /hippie

I dont know shite about how to help someone else with their money workings, just what works for me. Ive been pretty lucky so far. I got a debit card hit online for a $1 once while they were fishing me, caught it, and immediately called and turned it in and changed the cards number. They were trying to use it on a penny auction site. I was quick, but they also would have only been able to get $25 too. Not alot of money, but its still a violation and makes you feel freaky.

Usually I like to have some cash on hand for most all general purchases under $100 even though I do have to carry around large amounts of cash on me here and there when I'm buying used cars, used or vintage amps and guitars, etc. Thats when the concealed carry permit pays for itself.

The wife carries some cash to use for her daily stuff and she has a credit card in her purse only for emergencies, big purchases, etc, even though she rarely uses it. She doesnt ever really use the check card either unless she's grocery shopping. Ske likes to use cash.

I have credit and bank check cards and a business credit card. If I do have to use my banks Visa check card I usually only use it at places where I can swipe it or see it being swiped- Walmart, ATM, QT (inside, never at the pump), etc- and I'm online frequently checking the accounts. I wont use a check card at restaurants or places where they just walk away with it and can do whatever with it, thats when I use a credit card. And then usually its one of my business credit cards that gets used for stuff like restaurant and hotel bills, plane tickets, etc. One of the perks of being self employed. Stuff like the new dishwasher I just bought my wife, new tires for a vehicle, etc, all that stuff goes on my personal credit cards. And I always keep them paid up too.

My mother is a retired long time banker and she worked with all of us kids at an early age about money management skills, as I have done with my own kids. But its a new and scary electronic world out there now too so I help my sibs keep an eye out for my mother and stepfather and try to help monitor their money as they are like most older people in their late 70s, getting forgetful, and are too trustful.

I did strictly cash for years. Would go get a cashiers check to pay my rent, didnt even have a checking account til 1998. Now that Im married, we hardly ever carry cash and use the debit card for most everything. I'm completely paranoid about bank fraud but I watch it closely and we bank through Tinker Credit Union. They're good about watching for it also from what I hear.

I have 3 credit cards great for buying gas at walmart, ordering guns & gun parts, & i have never carried a balance

^^This.

Oh, I forgot to say that when I bought my new Taco in June, my credit score was 835. Primarily from the monthly use of my CC and paying the balance when the bill came. You all can laugh at credit cards, but good credit scores could determine what interest you pay for many other things or even get a job or a mortgage, and credit cards are where it's at when it comes to good scores.

+1 Good credit makes a huge difference in a lifestyle. Your payments on a car or mortgage will actually go to principal instead of interest.
