I am new to the idea of conceal carry but am looking at taking a class. The question I have is this. I am only planning on living in Oklahoma for another year then I am moving back to Washington (state). I know that these two states reciprocate CCL, but once I become a citizen of the state again, I am not sure if I will have to retake the class or purchase another license. I have tried to call and ask, but no one has given me a solid answer. I was wondering if anyone here knows the answer. Thanks

CHLs do not transfer from state to state.
If you get an OK CHL now, it will expire the minute you are no longer an OK resident, and you have to start all over with WA state. They don't care what you had in OK.

You can get a WA license now, and it will be good in OK for the time you are living here. OK recognizes all valid CHLs, and WA sells to non-residents. One big catch: you must apply in person in WA state for their CHL. They will mail it to you in OK, but all applications and renewals must be done in person in WA.

Where to apply
If you live in the unincorporated area of a county you must apply in person at your sheriff’s office.
If you live in an incorporated city within the county, you may apply in person at either the city police department or sheriff’s office.
If you are not a Washington State resident, you may apply at any local law enforcement agency in Washington. Documents you’ll need
You will need to bring all of the following:

Picture identification such as a Washington State driver license or identification card. If you don’t have a Washington State driver license or identification card, you must provide proof you have lived in the state for at least the last 90 days.
The $55.25 fee in cash, check, or money order made payable to the law enforcement agency. This fee is non-refundable.
If you are in the military, your military ID and orders listing your station location.

Ok, I figured there might be some way of getting around paying for it twice. I just didn't want to go through class, pay for the 10 year license to only use it for one year. One follow up question, I am going to WA in December so I could apply for it there, but do I need to take the class in WA, or can I take it here?

What makes you think WA state requires a class?
Read the WA state info at the link I provided above.

You must meet all of the following requirements to get a concealed pistol license in WA state:

Be 21 years of age or older at time of application.
Be a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien with permanent resident card or “green card.”
Have no pending trial, appeal, or sentencing on a charge that would prohibit you from having a license.
Have no outstanding warrants for any charge, from any court.
Have no court order or injunction against possessing a firearm.
Have no mental health conditions that would prohibit you from having a license.
Have no felony convictions, or adjudications for a felony offense, in this state or elsewhere. “Felony” means any felony offense under the laws of Washington, or any federal or out-of-state offense comparable to a felony offense under the laws of Washington.
Have no convictions for any of the following crimes committed by one family member against another on or after July 1, 1993:
Assault IV
Coercion
Stalking
Reckless Endangerment
Criminal Trespass in the first degree
Violation of the provisions of a protection order or no-contact order restraining the person or excluding the person from the residence

A background check is done on all applicants.

I preach over and over, ALWAYS get your info from the official state website, not from a third party site.

It absolutely drives me bonkers when a former student calls up with bad info from "some guy" or a concealed carry "synopsis site."

I think just getting the WA CHL is your optimum solution if you are going to be there soon.

Yeah I could definately understand that. Kind of funny that a state as liberal as WA has an easier process though...

The process has been in place a long time. They had concealed carry when I was going to UW in 1970.
Probbably if WA had to write their law from scratch now, it wouldn't be anything like the present rules.
Up until not too many years ago, I could just renew my license through the Seattle PD by mail. The democrap governor put a stop to that by executive order.

I really appreciate the help. Like I said, I am going up in December, so I will definately apply for it then. Thanks
