I knew an old man once (RIP) who was there the day they stormed the beach of Normandy. He didn't like to talk about it very much.
He finally got the mental and emotional strength and courage to watch Saving Private Ryan and he said it was about as accurate as being there, except all the actors were too old. Said they were all just kids.

There is a British Royal Marine named Edward William Durn buried in Normandy.
He died on D-Day. 17 years old.
His grave marker reads “Into the mosaic of victory our most precious piece was laid.”
