Both Norman and Stillwater have cleaned up their drinking districts from back in the day. Mostly due to changes in social expectations. Not saying it doesn’t go on. Just not epic like before.
I don’t know about Stillwater, but Norman has been oddly quiet on the drinking establishment front, especially for a major college town, for as long as I can recall. Friends theorized that it was due to the proximity of OKC, but I don’t really know why. Both Norman and Stillwater have cleaned up their drinking districts from back in the day.
I think the main thing that killed Norman's drinking is when Sugars closed down. I mean, if you've ever been there, you know you have to drink a LOT to enjoy the girls that danced there.I don’t know about Stillwater, but Norman has been oddly quiet on the drinking establishment front, especially for a major college town, for as long as I can recall. I stock up a small liquor store in our little town for the weekend, and ask the clerks and customers if they think I'm causing more problems than I'm solving, or solving more problems than I'm causing.Lived in both in the 80's. Pretty well tied from my experience.
It’s probably due to everyone getting a medical marijuana card.I don’t know about Stillwater, but Norman has been oddly quiet on the drinking establishment front, especially for a major college town, for as long as I can recall. Gotebo Goat Ropers.Back about 40 years a go my Mom worked at a convenience store in Gotebo. She has told me several times that they regularly sold more beer than fuel.
If I had to guess I’d say Valley Brook might be in the running in the most drunk city in Oklahoma.
It has been that way since long before MMJ. There are establishments that sell intoxicating liquors, but everyone I knew when I was in college wanted to go to OKC to party. It’s probably due to everyone getting a medical marijuana card.
The Gallupians moved to the big city and now you hafta step over them on the sidewalk. ABQ is like Frisco now,I’m just surprised Gallup wasn’t the “winner” in New Mexico over Albuquerque.
