Email from Curt, the match director of the wounded warrior match
Ladies & Gentlemen,
As you may know, we are doing a Wounded Warrior benefit match at USSA on October 23 thru 25.
It is going to be a modified Steel Challenge event. Not high pressure, stand and shoot. No expensive trophies, because I am
not spending the money on them. This is about evey dime going to the veterans.
This match is about getting money for disabled veterans. The $75 entry check is made right out to Wounded Warrior.
USSA is donating the range, the steel, and staff support.
At present I have 12 shooters.
12.
I know we are busy. I know a lot of folks are having money problems. I have a friend that works at DHS and they are
issuing record food stamps. I know there a lot of stories and problems out there.
All of these problems pale when you look at the issues some of our veterans are having.
I was priviledged to work a HAVA event in San Antonio last year. This is where severely wounded veterans are given a opportunity
to do what they used to enjoy. Shooting guns.
I had a guy with no left hand, and 2 fingers on his right want to shoot the S&W 500 magnum. The SO's were seriously worried about
the safety. I asked him if he was okay and sure. We loaded one round in the beast, and put it in his hand. I told him I would try to keep it from
hitting him in the head. I told the SO's if the damn gun went flying, I did not care.
This veteran shot it. He cowboyed up, held it stiff. Turned around and grinned at me, and asked for more ammo.
I need some folks to cowboy up.
If you are broke, send me the entry form. I will pay the entry for you, and write out a IOU for you.
I am damn serious about this. If you are going to do one thing all year - do this.
Our troops deserve it.
