On my way back from Venice, LA fishing trip with 2 of my sons and good friends. We had a blast!

That's a barrel of fun right there!
Yes Sir, I really enjoyed it. Fast action, as fast as you could drop it in. If nothing hit it in 30 seconds move to the next hole. First 30 was out of one hole that wasn't there before all the rains we had lately.

I decided to go do a little fly fishing this morning before work and was on the water at 5:45 and had my little boat loaded back in the truck by 9:00.

With the wind blowing 15 mph at day break, I went with a little heavier than normal set-up with the following:

Redington Vice 10 ft. 7 wt. fly rod

Sage Spectrum fly reel

9 ft. hand tied tapered nylon leader plus a 3 ft. tippet of 6 pound fluorocarbon

Floating fly line

The only fly I fished this morning was a hand tied pine squirrel zonker

Fish were small, and since my youngest daughter was home sick with COVID, she asked me to bring "4" fish home to fry up for her...

All toll, I managed to get 18 bass in the boat, lost several, and had a 15+ pound flathead take me for a ride, and after a good 20 to 25 minute fight, when I finally got it to the boat and it broke the surface, all heck broke loose! That fish decided it didn't want in the boat, and when it took off, I couldn't stop it and it popped the 6 pound tippet. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...

Launched my little boat @ 5:30 this morning and had it loaded back up in the truck by 10:00.

I fly fished this morning with the following:

TFO fly rod, 9ft. 5 wt.

Clearwater #5 reel

5 wt. floating fly line

6X tapered leader / 12 ft

I fished with a new fly today, one that is tied on a 2/0 EWG worm hook, and uses magnum rabbit zonker strips. I saw a picture of these flies last night, and after studying the picture for about a minute, and went to my fly tying room and tied three of them in short order.

I chose to tie this fly without any type of weight, as I fished over weed beds and did not want the fly to sink too fast and stay in the strike zone longer, and it paid off.

I knew the water in this lake would relatively clear, with good visibility down to a little over 4 feet, so the only fly color I took was white, and the overall fly length is 5".

No big bass in this lake yet, at least none that I have caught.

19 bass the morning, plus this guy that thought he had a big appetite.

Been having bad days at work here lately, so got home today and grabbed my pole and went down to the creek. Caught 46 of these in 40 minutes. Then I had to get back do chores.

Those green sunfish make excellent live bait for big catfish. Tough little turds

Well, I got rid of my bass boat last year and said to myself "done". Well maybe not so much. No bass boat but a pure nuf fishing boat. 16-ft (not sure how wide) beat up old flat bottom boat, but it has a 2019 15-hp Mercury on it. Got a screaming deal on it, hopefully I will get possession of soon so I can take my grandson and SIL and my good friend out in it.
