. I live in the city and I have a spider problem. Usually they are tiny and brown but this one is huge and colorful.

Yep, an orb weaver - Argiope. It's a good critter to have in the garden. I had a young one a couple weeks ago spinning its web on an unused faucet, but after it molted, it disappeared.

we call em "garden spiders". we get hours of entertainment tossing june bugs into their web and watching them wrapem up. don't kill it.
They come in waves, I havent had one aound here in 5 years or so but last time i did, i had lots of them.
