we call them "zipper" spiders. they will make a vertical "zig-zag" in the middle of the web.

I had a big one of these set up shop in my jalapeno bed last year, I left it to do its good work of ridding the area of bad bugs.

J.P. is right, though.....they have crazy strong webs.

We usually have one or two every summer. Some call them Writing Spiders. We call them Charlotte Spiders. We have a big one just outside our kitchen window right now. We've been watching her grow.

They will leave a huge egg sack when they're "done."

I rescued a Preying Mantis from one a while back. The Mantis didn't appreciate my grabbing her. She BIT me.

Those are the 'good' kind of spiders. Take it outdoors and let it go forth and eat bugs.
