I've got one that hangs out by my garage just under the flood light, it won't hurt you. It does a decent job of getting rid of some of the june bugs and other small spiders that get too close to it.

One day when we were out dirt roadin' we encountered a massive wave of Tarantulas, apparently migrating, crossing the road....there must have been tens-of-thousands of them.
The entire road was a huge crawling black wave of spiders about 30yd long....and endlessly crossing.

It was very bizzare.

at that point i would get my AK and start shooting like crazy thinking it was the end of the world

we call em "garden spiders". we get hours of entertainment tossing june bugs into their web and watching them wrapem up. don't kill it.
They come in waves, I havent had one aound here in 5 years or so but last time i did, i had lots of them.

I was goimg to say thats what we call them too garden spider
