I decided while I was off work the last 2 days I would make good use of my time. I have been wanting to get my Hazardous Materials CDL endorsement for a while, I don't plan on driving for ever since I just finished my Bachelors in Criminal Justice administration, but for now that's what I'm doing. Anyways I got the manual yesterday and GEEEEEEEEEEZ that test is HARD!

The manual is a small book! there are so many things to know and remember, I failed it yesterday by 2 questions. I studied the night before for 4 hours staright with no distractions. Went back home last night and studied another 5 hours solid! So went back today and took it again and ACED it! did no miss one :D Now I just have to wait for the backgrounds and fingerprints to be processed and I will be able to put it on my license.

Anyways just wondered if anyone else has ever taken the CDL HazMat test to get the endorsement?

Yeah that test sucks!! I took it 2 yrs ago, paid the background check, and got my endorsement. The tag agency just added the endorsement, but they didn't renew my license for a full 4yrs. So 2yrs later, I have to take the test and pay the background check AGAIN. Price has went up also. CDL was $35, now its $70. Kinda pricey, $160 for the endorsement. So when you do go get your license, make sure its for the full 4yrs

really? good to know.

I was told (not by anyone who actually works for the goverment, LOL) that the endorsement has to be renewed every year! I was like WHAT???

I only had to pay $89.25 to the TSA (or at least that's who my wife set everything up with anyways).

Man I wish you had posted before you took it. I always recommend this website:
http://www.cristcdl.com/otc/
If you can pass all the practice tests for the test you are taking you will pass the real test no problem

yeah I actually took about 3 of those simulated test online. They did actually help on the test. I will say if anyone thinks they can take this test after just looking at the manual for an hour or so they are sadly mistaken! Unless they have a photographic memory, which I do not...

It is good for up to 4yrs, however long your license is good for. This was told to me by a lady @ TSA over the phone. Your lucky about the manual. When I had to take the test I couldn't find an actual book to study. So I had to study with a PDF file online. SO you have to scroll up and down 500 times to get the info since its in book form. Either way, the test is no fun. Just keep your book for the next time you have to test lol

yeah no kidding. Actually my wife works for a University over here and she printed it off for me. So it was still great!

Alos Maxim so it's good for the full 4 years, do you have to re-test every 4 years for the hazmat also or just renew the endorsment every 4 years?

To keep the endorsement on your license you have to take the hazmat test everytime you renew your license. So every 4 yrs you have to retest. I didn't know this at the time. So when I went to renew my license the lady said ok computer #4. I was like wow, I have to take the test again? She said yeah lol. So I hadn't studied, so I failed that day, took it the next day and passed. Its PITA, but I gotta have it for work. Might as well take the tanker test too, its alot easier.
