There's an old Garry Larson cartoon that shows a bunch of old cowboys sitting around a camp fire. One guy is dead with his boots in the air, another guy holds a smoking pistol.

Otherwise, A committed Aggravated battery since he was carrying a weapon. He escalated a verbal altercation. Unless he can articulate his stance for attack first such as size discrepancy, force discrepancy, fear of injury/life lost etc he will be charged with manslaughter. It all changed when A went physical.
