It's no fun to fire someone because business is lacking or you have to make cuts.

However, I don't have a problem when the person isn't performing and deserves it though.

I agree with Peabody and some of the others, if the termination is warrented I am happy to do the terminating, call me cold but it actually makes me happy. Now if it was just for financial reasons or something not of their own design, ugh I HATE it I feel terrible.

Had to let a guy go because of a downturn in busibess one time and he started crying on me! Man that hurt, that was 25 years ago, and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

I have worked in retail long enough that firing someone is easy. Like said before, if you are getting rid of them they have usually done it to themselves and no its coming. For me the hardest part is that long walk from the sales floor where they are working to the office. Once we are all set down it's usually pretty easy.

Heck, once you have had enough practice at it you can challenge yourself to see if you can get them to thank you for firing them. so far I've only been thanked twice though.
