I just sent Dank an e-mail promising financial support to his next opponent if he does not APPEAR and vote to override. He, of course, was a no vote. :smack:

I just saw that he is my Rep too. But somehow I don't see him as representing me very well. :smash:

I'm going to make a separate thread and see if we can make it sticky with links for us to find our reps. It sucks paging back through 50 pages of this to find a link for that.

My legislator finally replies.

Sorry for not responding to your prior e-mails. I was however able to ascertain from those e-mails your opinions as to the legislation and did not need any further input to clear up your positions. If your prior e-mails requested a response, I vehemently apologize. It is just simply unacceptable.
I hope that clears up my reasons for not responding.
As to HB 3354 (open carry) I did vote against and will try to explain my rational.
1. I do not like people using the sight of guns to intimidate or scare people. I have seen the use of this tactic with many law enforcement officers on law abiding citizens.
2. I believe open carry will ultimately drive many businesses to disallow all carrying of firearms into their establishments thus creating more gun control and restrictions of my Second amendment rights.
3. I believe open carry will hurt our tourism industry in and around our lakes. Namely Murray and Texoma.
4. The two retired Highway Patrol Troopers that I serve with here in the house are against the bill and feel it will cause problems with the safety of our troopers and the public as a whole.
5. The majority of the people I have polled in Southern Oklahoma are not in favor of open carry. I have no problem with voting to send this issue to a vote of the people of Oklahoma. Further, please know I have and believe in concealed carry. I am a member of the NRA and did check with them before I voted against the bill. They have assured me they would not consider the vote a vote against the second amendment.
I am pretty sure that is not your opinion and I respect the same. I hope we can agree to disagree and possibly work on other bills that we do agree on in the future. I hate to loose your support but at least wanted to explain my thought process. The attempt to override the veto has not been brought before the House as of my sending this reply.
Sam

I simply do not see his reasoning but I guess we all have a right to our opinions.

Here is one more cut & paste option if your Rep. supported the bill initially.

Dear Representative Xxxxx,
As your constituent, I urge you to override Governor Henry's veto of HB 3354. I appreciate your 'Yea' vote on the bill's passage, but thanks to Governor Henry's veto, there is more work to be done. I understand that the override vote is on the calendar for tomorrow.
Oklahoma will continue to have some of the strictest handgun carry controls in the United States, because the bill only legalizes open carry for persons who are (1) US citizens, (2) over 21 years of age, and, (3) also already holding the Oklahoma Conceal Carry Permit. These are the same trustworthy Oklahomans carrying handguns in public throughout Oklahoma every day.
Over 12,000 Oklahomans have signed the open carry petition. I join them in urging you to override Governor Henry's veto of HB 3354.
Please represent the majority of your constituents who want this veto overturned.

Sincerely,

Get off my lawn.
1. I don't like people breaking laws that are already in place
2. I believe that property owners will exercise their rights more.
3. I believe that it will hurt tourism without reason.
4. I know two people that think it will make people less safe without reason.
5. The majority of people I polled likely don't represent the majority of the people this will affect.
6. I don't know the difference between "loose" and "lose".
7. Or the difference between "rational" and "rationale".

I think my version is easier to read.
