I picked up an old Savage Model 24, 22LR over 410 a few months ago. It looked pretty rough and I got it for a pittance. With some tips from SPDguns and YouTube videos I refinished the stock. I was really surprised at what was hidden under that old worn finish

Wow! You did an amazing job of bringing that firearm back to showroom quality. I’m totally impressed!
I too have a Savage model .22-.410 inherited from FIL. Lock up is solid and shot a couple rounds from both tubes thinking it was plastic or Bakelite stock. Just went out to the safe and looked a little closer. It appears there is wood grain under the darkened finish.
I’ll have to remove the buttplate to confirm if’s wood. If it is. Might contact you to see what process you went through. I’ve completely restored a Winchester model 12 shotgun in the past to new condition but this finish appears different.

The tenite stock on some of them looked very much like wood grain. The finish even flakes off like it does on wood sometimes too. But it does not sound the same at all, tap it and you’ll know.

It’s not wood. 😡 But the action is tight. 👍
My holy grail was the Savage in .22 Hornet over a 20 ga for many years. Found one at a gun show but the action flopped around like a slinky toy. Cowboy wannabes that snapped the action open and never lubed the hinge.

Very, very nice. I always wanted one in 30-30 over 20ga. I do not know if they ever made that combo but I wanted one. :P

Beautiful! I’ve done a couple of those model 24’s but mine didn’t turn out nearly as nice as yours. Fine job you did there.
